What is Sciton?

What is broadband light (BBL)?
Broadband light (BBL) with High Energy Rapid Output (HERO) is one of the most powerful & advanced intense pulse light (IPL) systems on the market. BBL delivers light energy to heat the upper layers of skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas stimulate skin cells to regenerate and boost the body's natural ability to fight the appearance of aging. In a study conducted at Stanford University, treatment with BBL not only improved the visual appearance of skin, but also rejuvenated skin on a molecular level.

Who benefits from BBL?
BBL therapy can treat a variety of skin concerns on both the face and body, including:

Poor skin texture

Pigmented and vascular conditions
Sun spots

Hair removal

What should I expect during my treatment?
Treatments can be done in 15-30 minutes depending on the area(s) being treated. Your skin will be cleansed and then prepped with a cool gel. Your eyes will be protected with eye shields. With Sciton's innovative technology, patients experience little to no discomfort during this gentle procedure. You may briefly feel a warm or rubber band snap sensation as the light is absorbed. After the procedure, the gel will be removed and you will be able to go back to most of your normal activities. There is a post-procedure instruction form that will be given to you with information on what to avoid following your procedure and how to take care of your skin.

What is the downtime?
There is little to no downtime and you can even wear makeup the next day in most cases! You may experience the sensation of warm skin (like a sun burn) as well as notice some redness for up to 24 hours. There may be darkening of your pigmented spots that will gradually fade and/or flake off within 7-14 days. The skin on your body generally takes a little longer to heal in comparison to the skin on your face.

What should I do post-procedure?
A detailed post procedure instruction sheet will be given to you. Avoiding sun exposure and wearing sunscreen is paramount to your healing process!

When will I see results?
It is recommended to have at least 3 treatments at least 4 weeks apart to see optimal results. However, you may see some noticeable improvements to your skin 4 weeks after your first treatment. After your skin is corrected, we recommend maintenance treatments.

This patient has Fitzpatrick 5 skin, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation necessitating a very cautious and calculated treatment protocol to achieve these results. The patient's skin now has a much more even tone & texture, with improvement in pore size and overall a much healthier appearance.
*Note that melasma and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation are incurable at this time and as such require maintenance treatments and strict avoidance of triggers.

Sciton's BBL is one of the most advanced IPL systems on the planet and in is capable of skin Rejuvenation and Prejuvenation. With this technology treatments are capable of not only correcting photo damage caused by the sun, but it is also able to correct some vascular concerns. Interestingly, a study out of Stanford showed that Sciton's BBL treatments were able to restore gene expression pattern in photoaged and intrinsically aged human skin to resemble young skin. Furthermore, the technology is capable of "Prejuventaion" which helps slow forward aging of youthful skin before our skin has a chance to age.

Building on Sciton's Incredible technology we are able to perform hair removal on our patients with black, medium and dark brown hair. The process targets hair in the Anagen phase destroying the bulb and preventing further hair growth. Our hair grows in phases and while some hair is in the Anagen phase when the bulb is present other hair is in the Catagen or Telogen phase when the bulb is not present so treatments are required every 4-8 weeks to allow for cycling from the Catagen and Telogen phases into the Anagen phase where effective treatment can be employed.

With Sciton's BBL technology we can effectively treat acne safely without harsh medications or antibiotics. The 420nm wavelength selectively targets the bacteria that causes acne and then 560nm, 590nm or 640nm wavelength of light is used to reduce inflammation. A minimum of 6 treatments at 2 week intervals is required
